We need to be better at taking criticisms
Recently, you must have heard the news of a Nepali girl's ending her life in the hostel of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. I am deeply saddened by the fact that the college administration tried their best to suppress and contain the news from going into the media.
Would they have done so if she was one of their own? I don't think so.
Actually, there were a series of bad events that happened and your blood will boil if you come to know about the incident in great detail.
Series of events
1. End of life
During Badshah's concert in the annual function of the university, fellow hostelers came to know about the tragic event. I have watched the very video where they forced into the room and she was found lifeless.
Sad!!!
2. The cover up
The guy who was in the relationship with the girl, and was rushed to the airport to flee the city by the college authorities (allegedly). But later he was caught at the airport... thank god.
Now, the university started trying to suppress voices of fellow students who were baffled and wanted justice for their deceased classmate. But the college sent a bunch of goons to disperse the crowd and threatened all students against protesting. However, some brave students, mostly Nepali students, still started protesting and then the college administration does the unthinkable... they put up a notice for all Nepali students to immediately vacate the hostel and campus premises. And not just that, they even forced them into buses and forced them to Bhubaneswar and even Cuttack railway stations so that they don't quickly come back to participate in the protest.
The real protest
The real culprits were those two ladies. They passed derogatory remarks on Nepali students saying that the KIIT University's budget is more than entire Nepal's GDP and so many other bad things.
And when that video got out on the social media, people couldn't hold themselves up. Now, students, other than Nepali students, started protesting and the story got picked up by several social media celebrities and multiple small-big news outlets. It went so viral that it reached Nepal parliament and now it had become a national level issue and the story could no longer be contained (all for the good reasons).
The resolution
The founder of the university is under heavy scrutiny and pressure. Of course, the unfortunate girl cannot return, but it was much required.
All the students who were forcefully sent back are being called back, and even getting their journey tickets covered by the university. But obviously, the damage to the university's reputation has been done and there's no going back.
Now, they must be just hoping that they shouldn't have tried to cover up the incident.
Final words
I see this issue everywhere that we, Indians, have so much unnecessary pride that we do not at all accept our mistakes. One cannot say negative about something, even though everyone knows that it's bad.
I don't know how this issue will be resolved in the long run. We need to be more tolerant than we currently are.
May the girl rest in peace and the family finds strength!
