How the Indian society punishes violators
Every society has a unique way of punishing people who violate the imaginary rules of society. You must have read somewhere that people were used to being killed by stones even for committing a small mistake that we consider silly today.
The Indian society still has several ways to punish violators, but before talking about those ways let's take a look at some mistakes that you can be silently punished for:
- For marrying a girl/boy of your choice
- For talking to the elders loudly
- For being and looking richer than your neighbors
- For looking good
- For not choosing the typical career path, etc.
You get the idea, right?
As killing the violators or physically hurting them would be against the law and the people could be jailed, society plays psychological warfares on you.
For example, if you live in an underprivileged society and married a girl/boy of your choice then the society makes fun of you in some way — they might laugh at you while you’re walking down the street or pass mean comments. And if you’re not available, they will do the same to your parents and other family members.
How do I know? Speaking from experience.
People who live in the cities might not have these kinds of experiences but it certainly exists in the large parts of Indian society.
Some other forms of these punishments could be:
- Not getting invited to the functions
- Not getting help from anyone in case of emergency
- People not coming when you invite, etc.
And these issues are rooted deep in most Indians.
Let’s take an example of a college, if you’re very intelligent or different in any kind from the other students, you will not be welcomed and everyone would hate you for no reason.
How do I know? Again, speaking from experience.
So do I think, we as a society need to be more tolerant and welcome others' lifestyles?
Yes!
Unless we realize what’s our problem, it’d be a tough road to becoming the world leader.
What do you say?
