Misfits
The Indian society is very harsh towards people who think differently i.e. the misfits. I'd say, it's a bad thing, but it's good as well in a way. Please allow me to explain...
The 1st kind of misfit
What would be the better example someone marrying a girl from a different caste? The inter-caste marriages in rural India is still a big thing, and it's still not widely accepted. But if you elope with someone, then the real hell
treatment starts from the society. They taunt you, your parents, and your relatives so much and you will start having second thoughts about your decision. In fact, we have also seen a lot of honor killing related cases as well, and the "crowd" applauds people who do so.
If you're a misfit of this kind, you're done!
Unless... you have the guts to face the society for some time. Because after some time, everything cools down, and people don't care much. Yes, it's a classic case of societal equilibrium.
There can be other examples for this kind of misfits, where the society is unnecessarily harsh. For example, if you like fashion and you like to dress up in your own way, you do not harm people, but they will still try to bring you down, because you're not like them. They secretly despise you and just follow their natural instinct to pull you down.
The 2nd kind of misfits
You're a bad kind of misfit.
You do not focus on your career, you do not have a plan, and you're just roaming around here and there with your friends, you're just spending your father's money like a fool. In that case, you're a misfit for the society and they start being harsh towards you till you change your course and become serious about your life.
And that's a good thing.
The other day, one of my friends called me crying that "his" parents are not supporting him and his marriage is also almost coming to an end. Everyone around him was kind of being harsh to him as he wasn't being serious about his life, and he was super tensed about it. Being his good friend, I listened to him for a long time and then provided some suggestions, till he felt good.
So... in this case, you'll see that he's a misfit and the society is good as well as bad to him – good in a way that they are pushing him to do better, and bad in the sense that no one, except me, is there to listen to him when he's down.
