The world is built on hope
Since childhood, I have been hearing the Hindi phrase “उम्मीद पर दुनिया कायम है” multiple times, but never seriously thought about it. In English, the phrase means “the world is built on hope” and now I realize that it can never be more true.
Everything, literally, everything in the world runs on hope. Without it, the world would collapse immediately. People are only striving to work, to do their best because they “hope” that their future will be better (better partners, better access to facilities, better education for their children, more respect in society, and many more things).
Also, I think, “hope” has a hierarchy as well — children have hope in their parents, in their school, and in their friends; adults have hope in the government, in God, in society, where they work, etc. These are just a few examples, though; the hope thing is very deep and you can never understand the what, why, and how about someone else’s hope. It’s truly a blind thing.
If someone becomes “hopeless” in their life, they start functioning rough and some people even take drastic steps like ending their lives. In fact, when you hit some low points in your life, you would also come across people consoling you by saying “don’t lose hope, everything will be alright”.
Yes, that important this “hope” thing is!
If you dig even deeper, you will come to realize that hope is also necessary for declining economies to survive. As soon as people in a country hear that there is a recession incoming, they become reserved and reduce their spending, and start preparing for the future. And they don’t freely spend their money unless they become sure that the economy is recovering and a better time is coming. So… if the economy goes down, people start feeling hopeless, and if people feel hopeless, the economy stays down. It needs an external cause to restore the “hope” in people so that they start spending, again.
It’s a cycle, really.
That’s it.
I “hope” that you will like this piece. 😉
