Banning VPNs is a bigger issue than we think

The "sources" say that VPN providers that got banned by the Indian government were not following the security guidelines. But are we sure of the fact was that "not following the security guidelines" doesn't mean they refused to share customer's data with the government?

And considering the past history of the Indian government trying to "control" things, this could actually be true. I mean, you must have heard how Elon Musk claimed that the Indian government was forcing him to withheld some X accounts and posts in India. In fact, the former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey also claimed the same.

I heard about this news yesterday that the gov. has banned multiple VPN apps from the both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The banned apps include:

  1. 1.1.1.1 by Cloudflare
  2. Hide.me
  3. Privado VPN
  4. ExpressVPN
  5. NordVPN
  6. Surfshark

The first 3 are recently banned, and the last 3 were banned a while earlier.

A few news articles that I read say that the Indian government asks these VPN providers to keep detailed users data saved at least for 5 years, including customers name, address, and even the IP address. If you think, if VPN companies start logging these private information from customers then what is the point of using a VPN?

So... currently, if you were a customers of these banned VPN apps, it's sad news for you. But it's even more sad that if you now use the other available VPN services, it means they are 100% logging you as they must be complying the government's rules if they are still doing business in India.

Sad.

I have nothing more to say.
