Boasting is inherently accepted in India

"Hey man, how have you been? My son got admitted to the best college and I'm very proud", said my friend's father to me the first time we met after years. In fact, these kind of things are used as ice-breakers in India. People you randomly meet will ask the first question as "What are you doing these days?" instead of asking about how you have been and if everything's alright with you or not.

If you're reading this as a non-Indian then this won't feel relatable at all, but I think, as Indians everyone should be able to relate to this situation.

And more so, when relatives visited when I was a kid, they would ask you general knowledge questions, mathematical tables, and a lot of other random stuff – all that to either test your knowledge, make you feel less significant, or just to make themselves feel good.

But this issue was mostly in the people of older generations, the new ones are better in this regard.

Also, I am not at implying that this "boasting" that I talk about is a bad thing at all.
